Malaysia BOLEH!!!!

Went to watch Sepet today with kimmik and Lisa.

It's a sweet-sad love story with a charming touch of whimsy. What really sells it is the lovability of the main characters. One of the things I love about it is the blending of languages - it's something so unique to M'sia. The writer happily mixed in Mandarin, Cantonese, English, Malay and even Hokkien. I only wish she'd contrived Tamil as well. =P

My only quibble with the movie is the artsy-it-is-what-you-believe ending. My theory is that Yasmin Ahmad of "takkan semua petronals punya ad ada orang mati" fame desperately wanted to kill someone off as her heart-wringing, artistic touch... but the other members of the crew wouldn't allow her to. So a an unhappy compromise of "did he die or not? Dunno lah... maybe... " was reached. =P

Sepet would be the first Malaysian-made movie I've ever watched in the cinema, and I highly recommend you watch it too. =)

I also indulged in a luxury purchase to celebrate the submission of my thesis' draft...

This is part of The Body Shop's "Create Your Own Fragrance" line. Basically the line is comprised of small colourful bottles of scents that are generally uncomplicated. The idea is to blend the scents together (not as in mix in a bottle, but to layer them on by spritzing one then another) to create your own unique fragrance.

I bought this with Kimmik, since 1 bottle retails for RM36, and 2 bottles for RM59. Kim's been in love with Amorito for awhile. I originally intended to by Beleaf, but it was out of stock... so, attracted by the pretty pink bottle (I'm so shallow) I gave Chymara a sniff and fell in love with it immediately.

Chymara is described by TBS as, "Musky and sexy. A 'floriental' cocktail with notes of berries, white lilies, and amber." Which is odd, since the reason why I liked it is that it's a light, sparkling floral with yummy fruit notes. But that is at first spritz. Now that it's dried down, I do realise its' musky and a wee bit heavier than I wanted it to be. I still love it, but I'm beginning to wonder if I should mix it with Minteva to freshen the scent up a little. =P

Whether the fragrance is sexy or not depends on a certain someone...

Jason is like kayu....and he admitted he had no prior acting experience nor training. But i guess that makes his shy character stand out more.

Orked was great. OMG how heart wrenching was the end in the car scene? Her cyring wasn't even like crocodile tears like in those Chinese serials.

Problem I had with Sepet and the last artsy Malaysian movie, Spinning Gasing, is they have alot of "fillers" which i guess suppose to be artistic or something. They can be done without and are draggy and boring. Like in Sepet, there was the long shot of the beggar on the street, Harith Iskandar and his wife dancing half naked (slightly amusing this was though), Jason dancing half naked....

and ending....pfft...I knew you couldn't expect a clear cut happy or sad ending from the likes of Yasmin Ahmad.....

hey Em, i read from yasmin's replies to her comments tht AhLoong (Jason) WAS supposed to die during the bang!bang! gangster thing behind the lorong but for some reason they changed it to give him an 'almost unnecessary' accident.

might go klcc to scout for vcd tomorrow. wanna watch again to find 'clues' to the mysterious phone call from the nether-realm.

as for Amorito.. not a good scent to wear when hungry. lol. good subsitute when u've no comfort food in the house though.

So what does "supposed" mean? They changed the story or it was censored?

wolf.. they changed the script.

here's yasmin's comment from her site.

tok rimau, it actually WAS gang shooting that killed him in the script!in the end i opted for a piddly little bike accident because... i don't know... because it's more pathetic and almost unnecessary, if you know what i mean.
